Dates for the Budget Session of 2026 has been announced after the decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) in its meeting held on Wednesday the 7th of January 2026.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in a social media message tweeted on X stated the Budget Session will commence on 28th of January and continue till 2nd of April.

The presentation of the union Budget will happen on First of February 2026, a Sunday.

Rijiju said the session has been convened following the President’s approval. “On the recommendation of the Government of India, President of India Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026.”

President will address the joint sitting on both the House 28th of January.

The Economic Survey would be tabled the following day that is on 29th of January.

According to the schedule, the Budget Session will be held in two phases.

The first phase will run until 13th of February, after which Parliament will adjourn for a recess to allow standing committees to scrutinise the demands for grants of various ministries.

The second phase will begin on 9th of March and continue until 2nd of April 2026.

Rijiju described the session as “a vital step towards meaningful debate and people-centric governance,” underlining the government’s expectation of productive deliberations during the Budget Session.

This year, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will make history by presenting the Central budget for the ninth consecutive time.

It may be recalled that the only record for the most budget presentations was held by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who presented the budget a total of 10 times between 1959 and 1964 and again from 1967 to 1969.

P Chidambaram has also presented the budget nine times, while Pranab Mukherjee did so eight times.

Since 2017, the budget has been presented at 11 am on First of February, following the tenure of former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

During his time, the date for the presentation was changed to allow the new budget to take effect from the first day of the new financial year, April 1.

Prior to this change, the budget was presented every year on February 28. The process of preparing the budget has already commenced by the Ministry of Finance.
