In an unprecedented and swift move eight Congress Lok Sabha MPs were suspended for the remainder part of the Budget Session after they created unruly behaviour on Tuesday the 3rd of February 2026.

The trouble started when the Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi again attempted to quote from unpublished memoir of former army chief Gen M M Naravane, an act that was vehemently opposed by Speaker Om Birla.

Rahul Gandhi was seen repeating his comments accusing the Prime Minister Modi was allegedly ‘withholding’ about the India-China standoff during the Galwan border crisis.

His actions saw repeated adjournments.

Gandhi alleged that the government feared a particular line in the memoir, asserting he had authenticated the source through a signed magazine article.

Speaker Om Birla in no uncertain terms had stated that rules of Lok Sabha does not allow such quotation from an unpublished book or an article from a magazine that cannot be permitted to be made part of the proceedings.

Yesterday, that is on Monday when Gandhi attempted the BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh objected and demanded immediate intervention from the Speaker to stop the Leader of the Opposition in his steps.

On Tuesday the situation escalated when Congress MPs moved into the well of the House and began throwing papers at the Chair.

This precipitated the situation and prompted the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to formally move a resolution to suspend eight Congress MPs.

He then read out the names of Congress MPs while move the suspension resolution and included among others Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh, Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Kiran Kumar Reddy, and Venkat Raman.

It was approved with the voice vote and all eight Congress MPS were then suspended for the rest part of the Budget Session.
