Eight terrorist camps are still active across the border in Pakistan stated Army Chief, Gen Dwivedi.

The Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi said two of these are active across the Internal Border (IB) while the rest six have been identified on the other side of Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir sector, places from where Pakistan still pushes terrorists into India.

Gen Dwivedi was speaking to media during his annual COAS press conference. As Operation Sindoor is still in operation, “any misadventure by adversary will be dealt with effectively”, the Army Chief added.

Gen Dwivedi said as the Operation Sindoor was India’s calibrated and resolute response to cross-border terrorism, demonstrating readiness, precision, and strategic clarity. He added that “Army had mobilised its troops (during Ops Sindoor) and was ready for ground offensives,” if green light had been given by the government.

“The situation along the northern front remains stable, but needs constant vigil. Renewed contact, and confidence-building measures are contributing to the gradual normalisation of the situation,” Gen Dwivedi said adding that situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains sensitive but firmly under control

The Army chief said, “In 2025, 31 terrorists were eliminated, of which 65% were Pakistan origin, including the three perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack neutralised in Operation Mahadev. Active local terrorists are now in single digits. Terrorist recruitment is almost non-existent, with only two in 2025.”

Regarding developments taking place Shaksgam Vally where controversial China-Pakistan economic corridor is passing through, Gen Dwivedi considers this as an illegal act on the occupied territory of India.

The Army Chief reiterated what the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said last week that India does not consider the 1963 agreement illegally reached between Pakistan and China to build a highway across the Shaksgam Valley in the Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK) area.
