The weatherman has cautioned not to be taken away from the slight increase in sunlight time during the day in most parts of North India as two western disturbances are fast approaching the region to bring rain and chill.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh western disturbance fast approaching the western Himalayan region from 19th of January 2026.

This, IMD says could lead to heavy rain or snowfall in some areas until January 23. This system is likely to influence weather across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

The IMD forecast adds that dense fog conditions will persist over parts of northwest India, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar for the next two to three days.

While the cold wave has weakened, it has not fully abated. Minimum temperatures are expected to rise slightly, but the chill will remain.

From January 19 to 22, temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain steady without significant fluctuation. Yet, dense fog may continue to blanket several areas during early mornings and late nights, prompting advisories for residents to remain cautious.

Looking ahead, the western disturbance is expected to bring isolated rainfall to Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh by January 23. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience fog, with light to moderate rain or snowfall forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.

After January 22, weather conditions are expected to shift again, potentially bringing a drop in temperatures and a return of colder conditions to the plains.
