Finland’s President Alexander Stubb held talks with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the National Capital on Thursday the 5th of March 2026.
Both the leaders agreed that military conflict alone cannot resolve global disputes and reinforced their support for efforts aimed at bringing peace to regions affected by war, including conflict in Ukraine and the on-going war in West Asia.
Addressing a joint presser with Modi at the Hyderabad House in Delhi, the Finnish President Alexander Stubb said both countries shared a commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and the rule of law while calling for an early end to ongoing conflicts.
“India and Finland both believe in the rule of law, dialogue and diplomacy. We agree that military conflict alone cannot resolve any issue,” Modi said. “Whether it is Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support every effort aimed at bringing a swift end to the conflict and achieving peace.”
In a lighter remark, Modi referred to Stubb’s participation in the Ironman Triathlon and said the two countries could achieve a new “triathlon” of innovation, digitalisation and sustainability through their partnership.
“Let us begin a new golden chapter in this futuristic partnership between India and Finland,” the Prime Minister said.
The state visit by the President of Finland has marked a major milestone in the bilateral ties after India elevated the status of relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” level.
Both the countries agreed on a series of initiatives covering trade, technology, mobility, sustainability, and innovation
Alexander Stubb was also the Chief Guest at the 11th Raisina Dialogue.
