State elections have been announced for four states and one union territory whose results will be declared on 4th of May 2026.
People will vote in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry on April 9. While Tamil Nadu go to polls on April 23.
West Bengal will witness a two-phase election with polling on April 23 and April 29.
The elections will cover 17.4 crore electors across 824 constituencies at 2.18 lakh polling stations, the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated while addressing presser in the National Capital on Sunday the 15th of March 2026.
Elections to the Assemblies of Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal are due as the terms of the Houses expire in May and June.
It may be recalled that the number of phases of polls in West Bengal in 2021 state elections were eight.
The EC’s announcement comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Kolkata, kicking off the campaign.
