In wake of a recent incident at the Shanghai Airport where an Indian national was detailed for 18 hours as the traveller was from Arunachal Pradesh, India has now issued a travel advisory ‘warning’ for anyone going to China.
Giving this information in his weekly presser Randhir Jaiswail the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External said on Monday the 8th of December 2025 that India has sought “assurances” from China that Indian citizens transiting through Chinese airports will not be “selectively targeted, arbitrarily detained or harassed” and that Beijing will “respect” regulations governing international air travel.
Jaiswal was responding to media questions when he informed about the travel advisory adding that all Indians travelling to or transiting through China should apply “exercise due discretion.”

Randhir Jaioswal added that “ we expect the Chinese authorities to provide assurances that Indian citizens transiting through Chinese airports will not be selectively targeted, arbitrarily detained or harassed and that regulations governing international air travel will be respected by the Chinese side.”.
“MEA would advise Indian nationals to exercise due discretion while travelling to or transiting through China,” the MEA spokesperson added.
