It appears that Pakistan has firmed-up its stand to boycott the T20 world cup match against India in an apparent expression of ‘solidarity’ with Bangladesh who have been removed from the tournament by ICC, the International Cricket Council.
Pakistan’s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif said the decision to boycott was taken after “careful deliberation and in solidarity” with Bangladesh.
Addressing a federal cabinet meeting he, “Sports should remain free from political influence, while explaining Pakistan’s position on the 20-team tournament.”
“Politics should have no place in the field of sports,” Shehbaz Sharif said, adding that “Pakistan should stand with Bangladesh in the matter of boycotting the T20 match against India,” Geo News reported.
Pakistan was scheduled to against India on 15th of February 2026 in Colombo, Dri Lanka.
It may be recalled that cricket’s apex body had taken decision to reject Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to shift their matches to a venue outside India, citing logistical constraints c0ming-in very close to the start of the tournament which begins on 7th of February.
Scotland has now replaced Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup.
