It was officially confirmed late on Friday evening by the Iranian envoy in Delhi that Tehran will most likely provide safe passage to ships flying Indian flag through the Strait of Hormuz.

Top officials in the Ministry of Petroleum confirmed to reporters that all arrangements have been for speedy off-loading of oil and LPG tankers once they are docked at their designated ports.

The ambassador of Iran to India, Mohammad Fathali while answering questions from media persons stated that Tehran decision to provide safe passage for stranded Indian vessels is “because India and Iran are friends. You can see in the future and I think that after two or three hours. Because we believe that. We believe that Iran and India friends. We have common interests; we have a common fate.”

He emphasised the mutual responsibility between the two nations, adding, “Suffering of the people of India is our suffering and vice versa. And for this reason, the government of Inda help us, and we should help the government of India because we have a common fate and common interest.”
