Amidst continuing and unrelenting pressure by Donald Trump on European leaders for a full takeover of Greenland, a territory held by Denmark, tensions are running high in the Arctic region.
Late on Thursday night the 22nd of January 2026, the Danish PM Mette Frederiksen stated that her country cannot negotiate on its sovereignty.
Her statement came-in soon after US President Donald Trump said that he had secured a framework for a future deal on Arctic security with the head of NATO.
Donald Trump had threatened to impose enhanced tariff on eight European countries unless they allow full takeover of the Island of Greenland.
At present Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, a nation which is part of the US led North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), a military alliance of European countries with America.
Trump who took the spotlight at the World Economic Forum meeting at Davos in Switzerland dramatically took a ‘U’ turn when he reversed his stand hours after he insisted he wanted to get the island, including complete right, title and ownership of Greenland.
