The Indian Air Force (IAF) has test fired with pint-point accuracy the new and improved version of Rudra missile which can travel at a speed of Mach 5.5

According to details released by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Tuesday the 2nd of June 2026, RudraM-II was fired form a fast-moving Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft.

The air-to-surface test firing was conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea in Odisha.

The missile is being developed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with other sister labs such as Defence Research and Development Laboratory, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Armament Research & Development Establishment & ITR.

According to sources, the tests were conducted under extreme release conditions with critical trajectory establishing the capability of all subsystems. he missiles after release were guided to a predefined target with pin-point accuracy.

All the test objectives were fully met as confirmed by the flight data captured  various range instruments deployed by ITR, Chandipur.

Along with the Development cum Production Partners (DcPPs), agencies like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness, Missile System Quality Assurance Agency and many other industries have contributed significantly towards achieving this goal.

The RudraM-II is an indigenously developed, solid-propelled air-to-surface and anti-radiation missile built primarily for the Indian Air Force (IAF), it is engineered to target and destroy enemy surveillance radars, communication stations, and air defense networks in Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD) missions.
